Conventional wisdom is that Mitt Romney has a far better organization than Newt Gingrich, and that’s a big part of why he’ll be the nominee. The coming terrain is supposed to benefit him, too. One friend of mine who's an expert at watching polls, Tweeted the other day,

You look at the contests coming up after Florida... Nevada, Colorado, Minnesota, Maine... Caucuses, West, and North... Mitttown, USA

and

Keep in mind, the Florida electorate is more "moderate/liberal" by about 8-10% than South Carolina.

But I think Gingrich, while not the future nominee, does have a good shot at Florida, Maine, and even Nevada and Colorado. I'm basing this on tea party organization, foreclosures, and Latino voters.

It was fine for the Republican Congress to raise the debt ceiling five times from 2001 through 2007 and George W. Bush had good reasons for doubling the national debt. Barack Obama’s spending, on the other hand, is beyond the pale. If you disagree with that message, than you are a Godless, unpatriotic American who doesn’t understand what 9/11 was really about.

I'm somewhat of a Blue Dog, but when it comes to reforming America’s broken health care system, a system that is failing one third of this country's population:

Senator Chuck Grassley is a two-faced charlatan.
RNC Chairman Michael Steele is a pandering buffoon.
Rep. Virginia Foxx and lobbyist Rudy Giuliani are dishonest fear-mongers.
Media clowns Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Betsy McCaughey are ruthless liars.
Facebook user Sarah Palin and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are at best flip-floppers, and at worst, world-class hypocrites.

I do not use these words because these men and women are Republicans; my desire is not to be partisan. There have been good Republicans in the past and there will be good Republicans in the future, just as there have been bad Democrats in the past and there will be bad Democrats in the future. No, I use these charged words because all of these politicians know the facts about the House health care bill and yet have decided to pander to an uneducated public and then write serious legislation based on their own lies.

Barack Obama has just begun to speak to an audience of 75,000 Americans in Denver. Some spinners, sheisters, and hucksters like to claim that this is the coronation of the Messiah by his thousands of adoring worshipers. I beg to differ. Those people are nothing more than empty cynics. When Americans come together, when we coalesce, when we seek a better future, and when we respond to a politician who believes in those same ideals, we are not establishing a new religion; we are following in the footsteps of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Jay,and George Washington. We are looking to a better future, and we are coming together and, as one nation, indivisible, we are making it happen.

The facts are these. Fifty years ago, a black man in America could not eat in the same diners as a white man - he had to walk around back and pick up his dinner by the dumpster. He could not use the same clean restrooms and water fountains - he had to seek out the dirty, roach-infested stalls and broken plumbing.

Honor and ethics are very important to me. As I wrote on my personal blog earlier this week, the Gospel shows us that few things are more immoral than the abuse of power. When corruption scandals beset DC, I am usually very swift to condemn the accused, even if they are members of my own party - case in point, while in New Orleans, I volunteered for Karen Carter's 2006 midterm campaign to unseat Rep. William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson (D-Refrigerator).

Sometimes, however, ethics scandals are just a bunch of trumped-up hooey designed to generate headlines no matter what the personal cost, and that's exactly what we see unfolding today. The protestors, bloggers, and GOP aides trying to smear Senators Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad right now should be ashamed. Dodd and Conrad are two of the most honorable people in Washington, DC, and I do not for an instant believe either one knowingly or purposefully did anything wrong. This is especially true of Conrad, who has been a model of honesty in the way he has handled this scandal.

It's been a long time since I posted on Daily Kos. I've more or less settled in at MyDD, but since tonight is such a historical occasion, I feel moved to come back and cross-post once more.

In her speech following tonight's primaries in Montana and South Dakota, Hillary Clinton said that her campaign has allowed mothers to hoist their little girls up on their shoulders and say, "See? Your really can do anything!" She spoke glowingly of the many 90-year old women who went to her campaign events, women born before they had the right to vote yet who were now thrilled to watch one of their daughters nearly win the U.S. Presidency. These are true and powerful statements, and Barack Obama can say very similar things.

Each of Senator Larry "Wide Stance" Craig (R-ID)'s email newsletters contains a little poll for subscribers to vote in. Like all online polls, the Craig eView polls are unscientific and meaningless, and often the questions themselves are biased and loaded, but perhaps they can at least give us some insight into the minds of Idaho Republicans. Obviously not all his subscribers are Idaho Republicans - I, for one, am a TX/ID/NH Democrat interested in veterans affairs, Craig's forte - but no doubt conservatives make up the largest portion of respondents, something previous poll results bear out.

That's why I find his latest results hilarious.

Until Thursday night, I was a member of the Biden for President NH Steering Committee and leader of Dartmouth for Biden. On Friday morning, I received a call from the Obama campaign asking to include my endorsement (their word, not mine) in a Biden/Dodd press release. I agreed.

Last night, I wrote my final thoughts on Biden for the MyDD frontpage and announced my support of Obama. I still firmly believe that Joe Biden was not only a good candidate but a good role model, and that my second-choice Dodd may be the most impressive politician anywhere on Constitutional issues. I stand by everything critical I’ve written of Obama’s inexperience, and there’s been quite a lot. But at the same time, I have also said that his is the greatest message I have ever heard. Experience and accomplishment matter, but so do competence, vision, inspiration, and policy.

The Iowa caucuses are tomorrow night, and New Hampshire follows five days later. I want to make this very clear: celebrity candidates and media entourages aside, Joe Biden can still win this thing. Based on local endorsements and strong pockets of rural support, Biden is in a good position to make a strong fourth place showing - maaaybe even third place - in Iowa, which would leave him as the only candidate on stage with the big three at an upcoming New Hampshire debate. A strong Iowa showing and decent results in New Hampshire would slingshot Biden to another strong showing in South Carolina, where he has a good organization and is already polling in fourth place. The media attention and fundraising such victories would bring would open a path to the nomination for Biden, the most accomplished candidate.

The big news this week is obviously the tragic assassination of Benzair Bhutto, so I should probably make this weekly campaign blogger post about Pakistan. Joe Biden has been warning for years that it is the world's most dangerous nation, was pushing Musharraf to offer Bhutto more security, and has proposed the most detailed and forward-thinking policy for dealing with Pakistan. But this is also the final week before the Iowa caucus. As such, I'll just direct you to the Pakistan post I made yesterday, and focus on an even larger issue: why, in my heart of hearts, I support Joe Biden for president.

Four months ago, I made my first frontpage post, laying out the five basic reasons I support Joe. Those five reasons haven't changed in the months since, but two other things have.
